So Rivoli Socks
I’ve always loved the look of socks with ruffles—there’s just something delightfully playful about that flirty little edge peeking out from the top of your shoes. That’s why I’ve knit quite a few pairs over the years, and every time I shared them on Instagram, the same questions kept coming up: “How do you knit that ruffle?” and “How do you attach it to the cuff?” So, when the idea for So Rivoli Socks came along, I knew it was time to turn those questions into pattern!
Finally, I found some time and decided to turn those frequently asked questions into a complete pattern! I took a deep breath, gathered my notes, and dove into the process head-first. As I sat down to knit yet another pair, I knew it was time to make a pattern that would capture the delicate charm of these socks while also being a joy to knit. And what better way to name them than after one of the most elegant streets in Paris—Rue de Rivoli? A perfect nod to their playful yet refined style.
Designing and Knitting with Joy
I’m not claiming that I invented ruffled socks—there are definitely other patterns out there! But I wanted to create my own version, breaking down every detail, from the separate ruffle piece to the neat way of joining it to the rolled cuff. This time, I made sure that every step was documented and explained, so there would be no guessing games for anyone following along.

One of the most enjoyable parts of creating the So Rivoli Socks was, without a doubt, working on the pattern layout. Knitting while simultaneously planning the video tutorials, drawing charts, and writing instructions—what some might call multitasking felt more like a creative flow. I wanted the pattern to be clear and easy to follow, with plenty of visual support. Filming the videos was a blast, and I made sure to cover all the details, from casting on to the very last stitch.
Finding the Perfect Yarn
I’ve knit these socks several times before, using different yarns each time, but for this pattern, I chose Filcolana Arwetta Classic paired with Garnstudio Drops Nord for the ruffle. I’ve been a huge fan of Arwetta for a long time, and this yarn didn’t disappoint! The softness, the perfect stretch, and the beautiful palette of colors made it a perfect match for these socks. When I finished this pair, it felt like everything clicked into place—this is the yarn I’ll be using for all future versions of So Rivoli Socks. It’s just that good.
The Finished Pair
When I finally cast off the last stitch, I couldn’t have been happier with the result. The So Rivoli Socks are playful and elegant, just as I had imagined. The uneven ribbing on the leg gives the sock a nice stretch and texture, while the ruffle and rolled cuff add a soft, feminine touch. They’re perfect for pairing with ankle boots or just for lounging at home—versatile, stylish, and fun to knit!
